Godforge Affinity System

Every hero has one fixed affinity. It cannot be changed in or out of battle. The five affinities are Strength, Cunning, Wisdom, Wrath, and Valor.

Relationships

Strength is strong against Cunning. Cunning is strong against Wisdom. Wisdom is strong against Strength.

Wrath and Valor are rivals: strong in both directions against each other. They are neutral against Strength, Cunning, and Wisdom. Same-affinity matchups are neutral.

Prey is the affinity you are strong against. Nemesis is the affinity you are weak against.

Matchup (who you attack)

  • Strong: +20% damage, +30% crushing hit chance, cannot glance
  • Neutral: no damage modifier; crushing can still happen from other sources; cannot glance
  • Weak: −20% damage, cannot crush, +30% glancing hit chance

In battle, a green up arrow means strong and a red down arrow means weak.

Hit types

  • Normal: no hit-type modifier; status effects need an accuracy / resistance check
  • Critical: critical damage multiplier; status effects still need the check
  • Glancing: cannot crit; status effects are blocked
  • Crushing: crushing hit bonus increases critical damage on that hit; status effects land with no accuracy / resistance check

A hit can be both critical and crushing.

Modifiers

Sharpen raises crushing hit chance and crushing hit bonus. Precision guarantees a crushing hit except in weak matchups. Blunt lowers crushing hit chance and bonus. Accuracy's secondary effect raises crushing hit bonus.

Attack rules

Every hit rolls its affinity hit type independently. Abilities with no damaging attack ignore affinity. Hit-chance modifications are additive. Abilities can force a hit type when matchup rules allow. Critical hit chance, crushing chance, and glancing chance are separate rolls.
